Renault Invests €2 Billion in New Electric Vehicle Plant in France
Renault has revealed plans to invest €2 billion in a new electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing plant in Douai, northern France. The facility, set to be operational by 2026, will produce Renault’s next-generation electric hatchbacks and crossovers, starting with the highly anticipated Renault 5 EV.
The Douai plant will focus on sustainable manufacturing, utilizing 100% renewable energy and incorporating circular economy principles. It will create approximately 4,000 new jobs and strengthen Renault’s position in the European EV market. The Renault 5 EV will feature a range of 400 km, fast-charging capabilities, and the latest in-car technology, including over-the-air updates.
This investment aligns with Renault’s strategy to have EVs comprise 70% of its total sales in Europe by 2030, supporting the region’s transition towards greener transportation.
